Buying a massage chair on clearance is one of the smartest moves you can make if you want premium comfort without the premium price tag. Clearance chairs can save you thousands of dollars, but not all clearance inventory is created equal. Some units are brand-new discontinued models, while others are certified pre-owned or open-box units. Knowing the difference matters.
What Does "Massage Chair Clearance" Actually Mean?
Clearance doesn't mean damaged or worn out. It simply refers to how the chair entered the inventory. Here are the most common types:
Discontinued models – Brand-new chairs the manufacturer no longer produces
Overstock inventory – New units a dealer needs to move to make room
Open-box massage chairs – Chairs returned in like-new condition with original packaging opened
Certified pre-owned chairs – Previously owned units that have been professionally inspected and tested
Floor models – Showroom display units that have undergone a full inspection before resale
Reputable dealers inspect and test every chair before putting it up for sale, so you know exactly what you're getting.
Where Should You Buy Clearance Massage Chairs?
Your best option is always an authorized massage chair retailer. Here's why:
Manufacturer-backed warranties (where applicable)
Professional customer support before and after your purchase
Financing options to spread out the cost
White glove delivery straight to your room
Access to well-known, trusted brands
Buying from an authorized dealer protects your investment. Private sellers simply can't offer that level of assurance.

Should You Buy From Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist?
It's tempting, prices can look very low. But the risks often outweigh the savings.
Pros:
Lower asking prices
Local pickup available
Cons:
No warranty or protection
Unknown maintenance and repair history
Possible missing parts or accessories
No financing options
No professional delivery or setup
Difficult—or impossible—to service later
For long-term peace of mind, an authorized dealer is always the smarter choice.
Tips for Finding the Best Massage Chair Clearance Deals
Shop during major holidays – Sales events like Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Black Friday often bring the deepest discounts
Ask about discontinued models – These are often brand-new and significantly reduced
Consider Certified Pre-Owned – Professionally inspected chairs at a fraction of the retail price
Check open-box inventory regularly – These move fast
Work with a dealer that restocks often – The Modern Back receives new clearance inventory throughout the year
Compare warranty coverage, not just price – A lower price with no warranty can cost more in the long run
The Bottom Line
Clearance massage chairs can save you thousands of dollars while still delivering the comfort and performance of a high-end model. The key is knowing where to shop. The Modern Back offers a trusted, reliable, and well-stocked source for clearance massage chairs from the brands you already know.
